The Importance Of Goals
Of the millions of people who have a regular training programme, either at the gym or at home, how many do you think are 100% satisfied with the results they are achieving? Well I can tell you the answer, not that many. In fact there are vast numbers of people who are hugely frustrated with their lack of results when it comes to achieving that well toned muscular physique or those chiselled ripped abs they have always longed for. Are you one of them, because I am and my only consolation is that I know I am not alone.
Lets face facts here, getting and maintaining ripped abs and a muscular physique is nowhere near as easy as some would have you believe. When you watch those TV infomercials for some new piece of revolutionary fitness equipment the guys using it are all built like Adonis and the girls are all California beach babes with perfect breasts and even more perfect teeth! They make it all appear so easy but the truth, as we know, is very different. If it were that easy then every single person with a gym membership card would be in awesome physical shape and the western world would not face an obesity crisis.
Take a moment the next time you are at the gym and have a good look around. What sort of shape is the average gym member in? More often than not they are just an average guy or girl and the guy with the ultimate well defined muscular physique with the ripped abs is actually quite a rare sight. Of course the ridiculous thing is that when we do see that guy we tend to be dismissive or even quite rude about him, casting aspersions on his character by suggesting he must be on "something" or that he is just plain lucky.
I have been guilty of this myself and I am afraid it boils down to just one thing. Jealousy, plain and simple. I want a well toned physique with ripped abs and he has it. I believe it was the legendary golfer Jack Niclklaus who once said " The more I practice the luckier I get" and the same holds true with the guy at the gym. He has worked hard to a well devised and strict plan of weight training and sticks rigidly to a low fat high fibre protein rich diet in order to reach his GOALS. It is this level of commitment that separates the high achievers from the also rans. Ask yourself which you would rather be!
I have spoken to a wide array of fitness professionals and successful bodybuilders and the one thing they all share is the desire to do the right things in order to achieve their clearly defined goals. Getting ripped abs is very achievable if you put in the time and effort and just keep doing the right things. Just turning up at the gym is never going to be enough.
It is massively important for you to establish your goals. Write them down and review them on a weekly basis. Plan exactly what you are trying to achieve and tailor your weight training programme to it specifically. Design your diet and stick to it religiously. Never ever deviate from it and you will achieve those ripped abs you always desired. Finally always remember that there is a vast amount of information and professional help out there for you to access. You are never completely on your own, stay focussed and ripped abs will be yours.
